Winter Meeting - Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn

An adaptation of Mark Twain’s classic story “Tom Sawyer” will be dramatized by Maranatha Productions, Inc., at the Fulton Theatre in McConnellsburg.

Maranatha’s production of “Tom Sawyer” will entertain children as well as adults as portions of this memorable classic are brought to life. Erik Nelson will portray Huckleberry Finn, and Dathan Glick will take on the role of Tom Sawyer.

Both Tom and Huck are two fun-loving orphan boys who are always looking for adventure in Hannibal, Missouri, along the Mississippi River. They both would rather go fishing than go to school and do whatever they can to fool Tom’s Aunt Polly. However, when she catches Tom playing hooky from school, she makes Tom whitewash the whole fence (or does he). After witnessing the murder of Doc Robinson, however, the two boys flee to Jackson’s Island. Aunt Polly fears that her boy is lost and gone forever. But Tom and Huck are really just off on another adventure.

Throughout the drama, Huck and Tom interact with the audience and enlist audience members to take on roles to complete the cast. All of this adds up to an hour of great fun for the audience and the actors.

Both Erik and Dathan are professional actors associated with Maranatha Productions, a nonprofit organization based in Lancaster, PA, that produces both religious and secular dramas for churches, schools, and community organizations. Erik Nelson is an actor, singer, model who has traveled internationally with Maranatha Productions portraying various roles, including Jesus in Passion plays during the Lenten season and John Newton in “But Not I See,” the story behind the composer of “Amazing Grace.” Erik is currently seen nationally as the host of “Dirt Bike Television” and will appear in the spring of 2008 in a feature movie about John Wesley.

As an actor with Maranatha for several years, Dathan Glick has portrayed Biblical roles such as Bartimaeus and Adonijah and the roles during the Christmas season of Jim Young in “The Gift of the Magi” and Bob Cratchit and Jacob Marley in “A Christmas Carol.” As an actor with Maranatha for several years, Dathan Glick has portrayed Biblical roles such as Bartimaeus and Adonijah
